Island of the Three Sisters

Three Sisters Island Chain
The Island of the Three Sisters is 95 miles south west of the continent of Cellenda and is controlled by Duke Cavendish who serves the House Nari’ and Azin. The 150 mile long island has three smaller islands that make up the island chain known as the Sisters. The island and island chain became to be known as the Three Sisters and the Sisters Island chain by the natural rock formation on the northern edge of the Island of three sisters. This rock formation has a mysterious almost supernatural resemblance to the legendary scene of the three sisters of Falda-Grey defending their homes against the dark forces.

Shires of the Island of Three Sisters

There are two shires on the Island of the Three Sisters. Most of the territory of the Island of Three Sisters is still undeveloped land. The two shires are:

Olisa Ona Shire

The Shire of Olisa (o-LEE-sah) Ona which translates to “By the gracefulness of God” as meant that only by the gracefulness of God has this Shire survived. During the first two years that this, the first settlement on the Island of the Three Sisters was founded 75% of the settlement died each winter. It wasn’t until the settlement discovered that the horde was poisoning the winter food rations did the needless death stop. Since them the settlement of Olisa Ona became the shire of Olisa Ona and prospered. The city of Aldan in the shire became the capital of the Island Chain. Aldan is located on the shore of Falda Bay. A Gate Portal was finally created in the city of Aldan in TK 1034 and there is a discussion of creating an additional Gate Portal on one of the other islands of the chain.

Terran Shire

The Shire of Terran which translates to Forest of beauty is located at the Bay of Thor and is the majority supplier of timber to the Ship yards at the Bay of Nari’. To increase productivity the Tully Military road was constructed between the shire of Terran and the shipyards at the Bay of Nari’. The shire capital is the city of Forestglen located at the southern shore at Bay of Thor. The decision was made to create an additional ship field at the Bay of Thor. The location for this new ship field is the town of Kirsk.

The other major settlement at the Bay of Thor is the town of Kirsk. The town of Kirsk is a large town with a population of just over 9,800 (also large enough to be considered a city). The town is nestled on the eastern shore of the Bay of Thor. One can easily determine why Kirsk’s primary source of income comes from the ship fields and from the sea. The town is a fortified town with a 15 foot tall stone wall surrounding three sides of the town with the bay on its fourth side. The wall measures 1.5 miles in length. Inside the wall the Town and the four community gardens are protected from aggressors. Due to the defensive nature of the town arrangements were made to have a gate created at the Town of Kirsk.

There are 4 additional towns and 240 additional villages in the Terran Shire

The Shipyards at the Bay of Nari’

Looking at the Island of the Three Sisters one can see the benefits of having a shipyard at the Bay of Nari’. Its well protected natural harbor is complemented by Dwarven and human made stone harbor of freedom’s pride. The shipyard has a new innovation in ship building the concept of a building suite. Traditional method of building a ship on the shore and then floating it has been abandoned at least here at the Shipyards at the Bay of Nari’.

During the early construction of the protected stone harbor a human mason went drinking with his Dwarven crew. Normally this may not be the smarted thing to do, however in this instant it was a stroke of genius. The human and the dwarves began to discuss ways to out do each other in the project when one of them (history will never know which one) suggested creating a set of suites for building the ships that water could be drained from during early construction and then once completed water could be let into the suite. The masonry crew spent most of the night figuring out how to do this, by sunrise of the next day they had developed the sketches for the first dry-dock system in the world. The only problem from that night was the tavern-owner. The masonry crew only ordered one round of drinks.

Since that historic day the Ship Yards at the Bay of Nari’ has constructed 14 dry dock systems, with another 16 planed over the next five years. The First dry dock was named after the tavern. The Blue Turtle dry dock paid of itself in its first year of use. Not only did it allow for quicker building of ships, it allowed workers to quickly and more effectively repair damaged ships without the need for laying the ship down on one side.

The Crown of Azin realizing the potential for innovation and the possible advancement of navel technological advancements the Shipyards at the Bay of Nari’ offered decided to capitalize on the momentum the masonry crew began. The University of Navel Architecture was founded five years after the protected harbor was completed. The university is considered one o the most advanced centers of education and navel research in the world.

The Shipyard at the Bay of Nari’ does not have a gate portal. It was decided that the shipyards were too important to risk a gate portal being used to attack the shipyards. The nearest Gate Portal is at the Town of Kirsk.

The Other Islands in the Chain of Sisters

The Island of Amber
The Island of Iron
The Island of Sail

The Island of Amber

The North East Island is known as the Island of Amber. TK 800 the first of the amber fields were discovered on what is now called the island of Amber. The Azin Crown has declared the Island of Amber a national treasure and one can only travel to the Island of Amber with a royal permit. The Dwarves and Elves both guard the Island of Amber and only two tons a year of amber ore may be taken from the island and only if a proper and equal offering is made to the ground. At the request of the Elves and Dwarves a gate portal has not been erected on the Island of Amber.

The Island of Iron

The Northern South West Island is known as the Island of Iron. The island is rich with iron deposits that are harvested for use for the Azin navy and the rest of the Sisters Island Chain. The Dwarves control most of the mines on the Island of Iron and have set up three universities on the island to teach geology, mining and smithing. If you are a dwarf or descendant of a Dwarf it is easy to get accepted to one of the three universities.

The Capital of the Island of Iron is the City of Iron Mount which is located in the central mountains plain of Iron Mount. The city is well defended against attack and in TK 1027 a Gate Portal was constructed just outside the main gates of the City of Iron Mount. There are 10 Towns and 400 villages on the Island of Iron out of these five towns and 160 villages have human populations and the rest are dwarven. The humans and dwarves work well together on the Island of Iron.

The Island of Sail

The Southern South West Island is known as the Island of sails. The island is home port of the Azin 3rd fleet. In addition to being the home port of the fleet the Island of Sail is abundant with citrus fruits and other edible plants.

The interior of the Island of Sail has been transformed over the years to grow materials used in making rope and sails. There are four plantations in the interior of the island. Each plantation grows Manila which when it is harvested is transported to one of the harbor towns where it is turned into Rope and Sails. In addition to growing Manila the plantations grow and harvest some of the more unusual plants found native on the Island Chain of the Sisters. These include:

Ice Berry Plant
The Ice Berry plant can grow to heights of 6 feet. The width of the plant is 4 times its height and sprawls out in every direction. At the beginning of the growing season small greenish-black spherical berries begin to grow. These young berries are considered a delicacy in many cultures. This is due to their high sugar content. Sweet syrup is usually made from the immature ice berries.

It is when the berries mature do they take on their name sake. The mature Ice berries are black as jet and are the size of a walnut, when one bites into a mature ice berry the temperate in ones mouth decreases by 5 degrees C.

Spice Nut Tree
The Spice nut tree grows to a height of 10 to 12 feet and its width is 6 to 8 feet with yellow-green leaves. During the beginning of the growing season vines extend out from the leaves and form a husk. The husk protects a hard kernel, when matured can be harvested. This hard kernel has a unique taste that is a mixture of sweet pepper and Clove. The kernels are ground into a power and added as spice to meals. Some say the ground kernels of the Spice Nut Tree can be added to a soup to reduce fevers and congestion in the lungs.

The Azin 3rd Fleet

The fleet is comprised of 16 squadrons of 20 capital ships each and 1 squadron of supply ships. The Azin 3rd Fleet is the largest fleet in the Azin Navy and comprises the majority of the defensive navel power for the Azin homeland. One of the squadrons is comprised of captured Horde Wraith class ships that have been slightly modified for use by the Azin Navy.

Lord Michael Tully suggested creating an additional arm in the Azin Navy. Lord Tully suggested having trained infantry on the ships that were trained in the art of navel warfare and taught how to fight their way on to shore. The Azin Navel Infantry Arm was created in TK 1030 with the creation of the Azin Navel Infantry University at the Island of Sail. These troops are also known as Sea Wolves or Orcas.

Unusual Sea Creatures around the Island Chain of Sisters

Sea Wolves Legends State that the Island Chain of Sisters is protected from their enemies by great sea creatures. Some may dismiss this as just superstition however the following events are known to have occurred with witnesses.

The first of Frost in TK 1040 the Horde 3rd Grand Pack (fleet consisting of 476 ships of war) of the Clan of the Obsidian Storm was sailing fast on the backs of their slave oarsmen heading towards the Island Chain of Sisters when the Great Squids of the depths came and destroyed their entire fleet in the matter of minutes.

The fifth of Harvest’s Beginning in TK 1030 the great Kraken was sighted in the light of the full moon coming towards the Bay of Nari’ the Great Squids attacked and drove off the Kraken.

These are only two of the many stories and events that have taken place in the waters off the Island Chain of Sisters. It should be notes that not a single ship flying the colors of Azin, its allies or the House of Nari’ has ever been molested by the Great Squids. Azin has hired and stationed Kraken Slayers on the island chain in case the Kraken decides to ever show its tentacles again.

Great Whales

The Great Whales

The Island Chain of Sisters is the wintering home for several types of whales. Whaling was an important source of income for hundreds of years in the island chain until Darius Nari’ came to power. Darius outlawed whaling for oil and bone. The only incident that Whaling is permitted is for a source of food or if the whaler has a specific royal permit. There has been one and only one royal permit provided since Darius Nari’ passed the Royal Decree protecting the whales. There were many rumors as to why Darius Nari’ ordered the Royal Decree. The most popular reason was to appease the Elves.
