Lamp Nuts - Lamp Nuts (Magical Element, Fire and Earth rated MR 3) come from a tree that is known by many names, including the Torch Nut Tree and the Flame Nut Tree. It is one of the greatest sources for lamp oil on Alquennas. When mature, this four foot tree produces anywhere from 30 pounds (in arid climates) up to 90 pounds (in temperate climates) of nuts per year. The nuts are very rich in taste and are quite nutritious. They provide 4 NU per pound. The abundance and hardiness of the plant has reduced the cost of lamp oil to 1 P per pint. Many believe the flavor is too rich to eat and grow them solely for the lamp oil. It is possible to make 1 pint of lamp oil for every three pounds of nuts. The oil is pressed from the entire nut, including the soft shell. The oil is smokeless and burns very brightly. It is also wonderful as a carrier oil for balms, salves and unguents. The plant does not have any special soil requirements as it does as well in sandy wasteland as it does in rich fertile soil. The Lamp Nut Tree is found on all of the continents except the Northern and Southern Shields. The nuts are quite cheap ranging from 1/2 to 1 penny per pound. Return to Top

Land of our Fathers - Land of our Fathers is a song made famous at the defense of Lords. The Horde forces outnumbered the defenders of the City of Lords 30 to 1, when the Horde breeched the outer wall of the city. The Bard Thomas Jones stood on a pile of rubble and began to sing. The song was titled "Land of our Fathers". The soldiers of Lords rallied as every Human and Elven voice in the city carried the song. The Horde was pushed back by a wave of humanity. The Horde never again breeched the walls of the City of Lords. For this action, Thomas Jones was awarded the Queen's Medal of Valor. For that day, no one in the city of Lords was a civilian. The song is now the battle song of all of the City of Lords' troops and guards. Return to Top

Languages of Alquennas - Many languages are spoken on Alquennas. They break down into four major groups. Those four groups are: Human Languages – These are those spoken by distinct cultural portions of the Human race. Of these, the most commonly used is Kingdom. Ancient Languages – These languages are no longer in current usage but are still prevalent due to records or ceremonial usage. Racial Tongues – These languages are spoken natively amongst the non-Human races on Alquennas. It is possible for Humans to learn these tongues but they are very difficult and require tutoring from a member of the race to ensure that they are spoken properly. Common Tongues – These languages have evolved over time to ease communication between the Peoples of Alquennas. Of these, the most common by far is Trade Tongue. All nations of Alquennas teach Trade Tongue to their children as well as their own language. A person may no longer be fluent in this simple speech, but they will at least be able to ask for help under the Three Great Laws. The Larlack Bush - The Larlack Bush (Magical Element Fire MR 3) produces colorful flowers that dependant on the nutrient levels of the soil will determine the exact color of the buds and flowers. If the nutrient levels of the soil are high, the flowers of the Larlack Bush will be Purple with yellow veins. This coloration of flowers is known as the Lesseneil's Blossom (Lesseneil being the Trickster God) for, when turned into a tea, the purple and yellow leaves create a powerful hallucinating mixture. The mixture costs 10 P per dose. If the nutrient levels of the soils are average, the flowers of the Larlack Bush will be Red with Dark Brown to Black veins. This coloration of flowers is known as the Widow's Choice blossom for turned into a tea the Read and Dark leaves create a powerful poison that does 4 body points upon ingestion and 2 body points of damage per round lasting 30 minutes. The victim will not feel any pain as the Widow's Choice begins to turn off the pain receptors as it begins to ravish the body. The mixture costs 40 P per dose. If the nutrient levels of the soil are low, the flowers of the Larlack Bush will be Yellow with Green veins. This coloration of flowers is known as the Healer's Blossom. When turned into a Tea, the Yellow and Green leaves create an antidote for the Widow's Choice and Waters of Treachery. The mixture costs 80 P per dose The Larlack Bush is used by farmers throughout the world to judge the quality of their soil. Because of this, the Larlack Bush has become so abundant throughout the world that one can purchase an adolescent plant for 15 P. Return to Top

The Lead Rose - The Lead Rose (magical Materials Earth MR 5) are sought after for one major reason. Their MR is a great deal lower than Lead found elsewhere naturally. Many mages will ignore the dangers of the wasteland to find Lead Rose plants. Most mages fail to return from the Wasteland. Each petal of a Lead Rose is 1 oz. For every petal, that one wears their MR increases by +1%. If a Lead Rose petal is placed in a container, even a leather pouch, with food the rate of decay is reduced by 10% a maximum effect of 50% reduction in spoilages can be obtained. Return to Top

Leopon - A Leopon is the breeding of a male Leopard with a female lion. The creature has a head of a lion with the body and color of a leopard. Smaller than a lion, the agility and speed of the creature resembles that of the leopard. The creatures originally came from the Island of Hindra. They have since made their way to Terla and Trista. The Level Constellation - The Level Constellation is one of the constellations of the South Polar Region of Alquennas. It is comprised of 15 stars. As the name suggests, the constellation looks like an engineer's level or builder's level. Return to Top

Levende Maling - Levende Maling is Dwarven and translates to Living Paint or Living pigments. These bio-films attach themselves to paint. Once the creatures are attached, they absorb some of the paint or pigment that then becomes the life forms color. The descendants retain the color that their ancestors took on. It is unclear how the Dwarves cultivate Levende Maling. The procedures needed to use Levende Maling are also a closely guarded secret. However, what is known is that once attached to a painting, neither the image nor the Levende Maling will need to be repainted. In addition, it is known that the Levende Maling must have a rock structure or at least lime stone mortar to live on. Return to Top

Leviathan - The Leviathan Class ship is a Horde Union Design that first launched, and began sea trials in TK 1055. The ship is reported to be a dual hull design that measures over 400 feet long by 160 feet wide. This would make the Leviathan the largest ocean going craft on the planet. Return to Top

Liger - A Liger is a cross between a Lion and a Tiger. A liger resembles a great lion with stripes of a tiger that are muted or diffused. Outside of the Sky Cats and cave lions, they are the largest great cats on Alquennas. This is a joining of a Male Lion and a Female Tiger. Return to Top

Light One/Light Bearer/Lightling - Light One/Light Bearer/Lightling is a term used when discussing the specific individuals determined to have performed Light actions or aided Light Forces. Line Thief - A Line Thief is defined as an intentional usurper of a line of succession. Line Theft is committed by knowingly introducing a false heir into the bloodline through adultery or other means. Line Thievery affects both the nobility and commoners alike as it affects the inheritance of property and money. If found guilty of Line Theft, the convicted may lose all of their possession including their heads. Linen Armor - Linen Armor comes in many forms in the Living World of Alquennas. The oldest form is linen sheets up to 12 layers being glued and pressed together to form a durable armor shell. Other forms include linen with plates of bronze or iron woven into them. They all are classified as linen armor. Return to Top

Liner - A Liner is a city official that is responsible for maintaining the boundary lines of property in a city. If there were disputes over a property line within the city’s control, the liner settled the dispute. Return to Top

Lion Fish - The Lion Fish is a tropical coral reef fish that, due to its colorations and arrangement of its main (spines), it looks like a lion. The sting from one of its spines is dangerous to all human sized creatures. The poison does an initial 20 points of FP damage and continues to inflict damage at a rate of 2 FP per ten minutes. This continues for a full day. The victim is in a great deal of pain while the poison runs its course. Hardier creatures will survive a single sting of a Lion Fish. There is an antidote for the poison found on the nearby islands of the Lion Fish's natural habitat. The poison is worth 60 P per dose and the antidote is worth 120 P per dose. Return to Top

Long Peppers (Magical Element, Fire rated MR 4) - Long Peppers, sometimes called Hindran Long Peppers, are a member of the same botanical family that white and black pepper comes from. It has a similar, but hotter taste. It is also a favorite in pickling mixtures and as a pickle itself. The fruits of Long Pepper grow on a vine. The pepper is embedded in the surface of the flower spike and resembles a Hazel tree catkin. Once enchanted, it adds a +7% to all Wards spells except for Wards against Evil and Undead. It adds a +13% to those Wards. The fruit of the Long Pepper is nutritious and is rated at 4 NU per pound. One has a 40% chance to find the Long Peppers in a store at a cost of 8 P per pound. One has a 20% chance to find a Long Pepper Plant in a store at a cost of 40 P per plant. Return to Top

The University of Magical and Arcane Arts at Lords - The University of Magical and Arcane Arts at Lords was established in TK 1035. The city of Lords was one of the few cities in the country of Valinnia that did not fall to the Horde during the Fourth War.
